The new film by Pedro Almodóvar, Bitter Christmas, released its first trailer. A trailer with very little dialogue, suggestive, where we can already hear the strains of the soundtrack by Alberto Iglesias and a cast led by Bárbara Lennie, Victoria Luengo, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Patrick Criado, Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Milensa Smit among others.
The film will be released in theaters by Warner on March 20, a date very dear to the filmmaker. This is where he usually presented his films before going to Cannes. We will have to wait to find out if Bitter Christmas repeat this same strategy. Almodóvar is filming again in Spanish after his first experience in English, The Room Next Door, with which he won the Golden Lion in Venice.
The film tells the story of Elsa, an advertising executive whose mother dies during a December long weekend. “She finds refuge in work, even if it is more of an escape. She works non-stop and, without realizing it, does not allow herself the time necessary to mourn the absence of her mother. Until a panic attack forces her to stop and impose some rest. Her partner, Bonifacio, is her lifeline in these moments of crisis. Elsa decides to travel to the island of Lanzarote accompanied by her friend Patricia, who also needs to get away from Madrid, while Bonifacio stays in the city,” she says. the official synopsis.
In addition, the story of these characters will be told alongside that of screenwriter and director Raúl Durán, “mixing fiction and reality”. “Because Bitter Christmas explores how life and fiction are linked indissolubly, even sometimes painfully,” they say of the central theme of this story.
