Pedro Manzano will restore the Cristo de las Penas de La Estrella. This is what the brothers of the Triana corporation decided in a town hall this Sunday where they had to decide whether the restaurateur who had just completed the actions had acted on the owner. … on the Macarena or on the team of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH).
The meeting took place again at the Nuestra Señora del Rosario school after the extraordinary general council held less than a month ago where the restoration was unanimously approved but it was necessary to convene a new one to choose who would act at the height of José de Arce. Sources consulted by ABC of Seville indicate that around 250 brothers participated, of which 200 reportedly supported Manzano’s option while around 40 supported the IAPH.
At the moment, the deadlines for the work on the Cristo de las Penas have not been communicated, an image on which in August 2024, radiographic studies were carried out at the Quirónsalud Infanta Luisa Hospital to determine the state of conservation of the sculpture before restoration.
The studies, supervised and directed by the conservation-restoration team of the brotherhood of the center located on San Jacinto Street, consisted of a computerized axial tomography (CAT) and several radiographic tests from which the diagnostic report and the proposal for preliminary image processing are based.
The work was created by the Flemish image artist José de Arce in 1655, authorship discovered during the last intervention made to the Lord in 1997 by the brothers Cruz Solís and Isabel Poza in the facilities of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH). It was then that a historical document was found inside the Lord’s pedestal in which flamenco was mentioned as the author of the image.
