It was clear that the debate in the Congress of Deputies this Wednesday was going to revolve around complaints of sexual harassment against PSOE officials. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, was ready and had no intention of giving explanations. I knew it was the best … the defense was a good offense. For this reason, before responding to Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the press already knew that the PSOE had denounced the mayor of Algeciras before the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office for sexual harassment. And there, the president had a weapon to stir up the opposition and dilute his own miseries.
Since the Congress, he has singled out two Andalusian mayors and pilloried them, with the desire to dispel the case of sexual harassment who defeated their party. When the PP asked about Salazar, saying that “this is not an isolated case”, he recalled the case of Torremolinos and added the “four cases” that afflict the president of the Provincial Delegation of Lugo, Sánchez launched the attack without taking any prisoners.
At that time, Núñez Feijoo was disfigured by his “silence” in the alleged cases of harassment by the mayor of Algeciras (Cádiz), José Ignacio Landaluceand Estepona (Málaga), José María Garcia Urbanowhich has already been archived. “The same thing they did in Ponferrada in the Nevenka affair,” added the Prime Minister.
It was a coordinated attack by the PSOE to defend itself from scandals, as well as from inaction for months after filing a complaint with the anti-harassment committee. The press was aware of the socialist complaint against the mayor of Algeciras before Sánchez’s microphone was turned on in Congress. It was enough to exploit the vein. And the missile launched from the deputies’ gallery had consequences. Around noon, the mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, announced his temporary suspension of activism of the PP.
José Ignacio Landaluce claims that he is doing it to defend his honor in the face of the complaint filed by the PSOE before the Supreme Court. He became a senator in this body by becoming a senator. He is accused by him of alleged crimes of embezzlement, influence peddling and sexual harassment or abuse. For this reason, Landaluce resigns from his organic functions, but does not resign from his institutional functions as mayor and senator.
The councilor of Algeciras reiterated his “absolute innocence” and reaffirmed his “determination to continue to exercise his right to defense with all the legal means at his disposal”. In this sense, Landaluce explains that it is “harassed, used and persecuted” by the PSOE.
At the same time, he emphasizes that the actions of the socialists “are due to pure political opportunism, seeking to take advantage of moments of particular internal vulnerability of their own party to reactivate unfounded accusations with the aim of exhaust municipal government“. “Their strategy aims to hide their own crises and divert attention,” added the mayor of Algeciras.
José María García Urbano, mayor of Estepona (Málaga), also reacted to the attack, deeming it “unacceptable” that the president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, “for cover their shame and that of the PSOE“Using a false complaint for harassment, filed by the courts, to attack the PP.” García Urbano explained that the complaint “was already permanently archived by the Provincial Court of Malaga.
The councilor recalls that, in his case, it has been demonstrated that “he was the victim of a false complaint and of a political campaign orchestrated on the basis of lies with the sole objective, as the courts confirmed, of undermining his dignity and his political career at the head of the Town Hall”. It is for this reason that he emphasized that “will take legal action “timely action against anyone linking him to harassment cases.”
