He president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, will meet next Wednesday, December 17, with the head of the Central Executive, Pedro Sánchez, in La Moncloa, to request greater collaboration between the two public administrations in order to accelerate the reconstruction of the Valencian Community after the dana of October 29, 2024, in which 230 people died and economic losses are estimated in billions. Relations between the two administrations have not been good for months, coinciding with the presidency of Carlos Mazón.
The President of the Consell will highlight the importance of creating a Joint Commission between the Spanish Government, the Generalitat, the municipalities, the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) and the Provincial Deputation of Valencia, to coordinate recovery tasks and respond to the requests of the affected municipalities.
Pérez Llorca highlighted his commitment to “dialogue, consensus and understanding” between all administrations involved in the reconstruction to provide a common response that meets the needs of citizens.
The head of the Consell will present to Sánchez other demands that he considers priorities, such as a new regional financing model and the leveling fund “to correct the structural deficit in this area from which the inhabitants of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón suffer”, as well as sufficient water resources for the autonomous community. Pérez Llorca has repeatedly criticized the government’s delay in FLA (Autonomous Liquidity Fund) and the accumulation of public debts by the Generalitat.
The new president after the resignation of Carlos Mazón, advanced last week, after announcing the overhaul of his government, that he would request a formal meeting with President Sánchez, whom he called yesterday to visit the area affected by the floods.
The Valencian president made his debut in power with several gestures in search of dialogue. He did this first with the Dana victims’ associations, among the most critical, from whom he asked for forgiveness, then he telephoned and asked for communication channels. Some of these associations, however, requested as a condition that former president Carlos Mazón hand over his deputy diploma, which seems a long way off at present.
In his first trip as head of the Consell, he visited last week the Valencian municipality of Picanya, governed by the socialist Josep Almenar, one of the most affected by the dana of 2024; and yesterday Tuesday he visited the town of Paiporta, also in the company of a socialist mayor, and where the disaster caused great damage to human lives and material damage.
The Valencian politician participated last Saturday in Madrid in the celebration of Constitution Day, where he assured that “people are tired of tensions, of struggles, of lack of understanding” and demanded more dialogue, “especially with the Valencian people, who have suffered an enormous tragedy, enormous losses and that what is demanded of us, citizens, is to live up to what they deserve”, he expressed.
Pérez Llorca advocated working towards a physical reconstruction, but also a moral one: “And the best example is the Constitution, this dialogue, this understanding that the Spaniards had, we must have it and with particular emphasis on the Valencian Community”, he stressed.
