State Deputy Romero Albuquerque (União Brasil) requested explanations from the governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra (PSD), after the publication, in the Official State Gazette, of a tender that foresees expenditure of almost 6 million reais for the purchase of crystallized sugar.
According to data from the Transparency Portal, state government spending on the purchase of sugar amounted to approximately R$138,000 in 2023. In 2024, this value exceeded R$3 million. With the new call for tenders, the amount expected for 2025 practically doubles, approaching the R$6 million mark.
For Romero Albuquerque, the variation in values attracts attention. “Cumulatively, we are talking about growth that exceeds 4,000%. This is a jump of almost 44 times in just two years. This is not a force of expression, it is mathematics,” declared the parliamentarian.
