The Mossos d’Esquadra, in coordination with the Santander National Police, arrested a 26-year-old man in the Cantabrian capital this Monday for extortion of minors in order to obtain sexual images through social networks.
For now … Eight victims have been confirmed, six of them in Cantabria, including four are minorseven if the investigation remains open.
The operation carried out by the two organizations began after the complaint from a minor in Tarragona, who warned that a man had contacted her via Instagram and placed serious pressure and threats on her and her family, with the aim of obtaining photographs and videos with sexual content. Officers considered this to be a case of sexual harassment of minors in digital environments, commonly known as grooming.
From the very first steps, we learned of the existence of a second minor linked to the events. The girl explained that she had been contacted from another Instagram profile, also attributed to the same author, and that she had contacted share an intimate image.
The investigation revealed that the inmate had created fake profiles on social networks using the image of another young man to gain credibility with the victims.
With this fictitious identity, he initiates conversations with minors and, once they have gained their trust, he asks them for intimate images. Subsequently, he subjected them to coercion and threats to obtain more sexual material, threatening to release the images if they did not comply with their demands.
The investigations made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrator. 26 year old man, resident in Santander and who had a criminal record for sexual abuse.
Once his identity and residence were confirmed, the Mossos d’Esquadra contacted the Santander National Police to locate and arrest the person under investigation.
Finally, on December 15, agents of the National Police The man was arrested at his home for crimes of sexual assault, corruption of minors, child pornography and against privacy.
During the search, computer equipment was used which, in an initial analysis, made it possible to verify that it contained a large number of images that could come from other minor victims.
In addition, it was proven that the person under investigation had made appointments in person in Cantabria with some of the victims, adults and minors, for sexual purposes.
The detainee was taken into custody last Wednesday before the Court of Instruction number 2 of Santander, acting as guard, which ordered his entry into prison.
