THE Petrobras began the sustainable recycling process of the P-19 and P-26 platforms, which operated in the Campos Basin. According to the company, the semi-submersibles will be sold separately and could make it possible to market around 40,000 tonnes of steel.

The notice is aimed at ship recycling facilities that can participate individually or in association with other companies, provided that they operate within the national territory, depending on the public company.
The notice provides for two phases: qualification and price dispute. The qualification takes place before the tender and ensures that only previously qualified companies can participate in the next stage, namely the price dispute with the tenders. The bidding phase is initially expected to take place in February 2026, according to Petrobras.
Currently, the P-26 is docked at Açu Portnorth of the state of Rio de Janeiro, and the P-19 remains anchored in Campo de Marlim, in the Campos basin.
According to the company, changes have been made to the tender process, such as the possibility of carrying out recycling on impermeable ground, and not just in dry dock as happened with the P-32 and P-33 platforms, and the possibility of the unit being docked on its side by the buyer, in addition to pre-disassembly.
“The new requirements improve the sales process, without compromising safety, environmental and health aspects, ensuring a sustainable destination in line with global industry best practices,” says the company.
The first two units decommissioned by Petrobras were purchased by Gerdau under call for tender: P-32 and P-33. The first platform to be dismantled in Brazil, the P-32 found itself in a dead end due to oily water residue found during dismantling. The P-33 is in Porto do Açu, Rio, for preliminary services, before proceeding to dismantling, also at the Rio Grande shipyard.
