Sunscreen: essential in summer for pets

Veterinary sunscreen is the first item on the care list. “Just like humans, animals also suffer from the harmful effects of UV rays,” explains Danielle Barcellos, pharmacist and co-founder of Tudovet. It should be applied before exposure to sunlight and reapplied every two to three hours or after swimming in the sea.

The form of the application is also important. Sticks work well in small areas; Sprays cover larger areas; Creams provide good adhesion. And gels bring lightness to very hot days. The choice depends on your pet’s skin and coat type — always use products designed specifically for animals.

After the sea: moisturize and soften the skin

Once the tour is over, the care continues. Danielle recommends using soothing pads to clean away salt and sand residue and help rejuvenate the skin. The moisturizing mist instantly rejuvenates the skin and helps restore the hydrolipidic layer, preventing irritation and itching.

These post-sun phases are essential to keep the skin barrier intact and ensure the animal is comfortable. Danielle stresses that prevention is the key to a fear-free summer.

Cat on the beachLike humans, dogs and cats can suffer from heat, solar radiation and humidity, which increases the incidence of skin infections, ear infections and burns.

Sensitive skin requires special care

Pets with lighter or rosier skin, brachycephalic breeds, or those with a history of dermatitis require a more stringent preventative routine, with constant hydration, sun protection, and veterinary monitoring. Danielle explains that technologies such as nanotechnology have made formulations more efficient and safer, especially for these sensitive files.
