This Tuesday morning (16), the Federal Police executed 11 search and seizure warrants and four temporary arrest requests in five Brazilian states against a criminal organization suspected of international trafficking of Brazilians. According to the PF, the victims are hired by a sports gaming company and subjected to conditions close to slavery.
According to the company, investigations into the gang began when 109 people were arrested in Nigeria, including 5 Brazilians, accused of committing cybercrimes. From there, the PF identified a structured pattern of recruiting Brazilians through social networks and digital platforms, with promises of high salaries and job opportunities in companies in the online gaming sector.
However, when victims arrived abroad, they were subjected to grueling travel, confiscated documents, restricted freedoms, armed surveillance, and the imposition of debts. The investigation also revealed that the Brazilians were hired by a sports gaming company, which operates two platforms in the national territory.
Called “Operation Dark Bet,” Tuesday’s action aims to collect evidence, disrupt criminal activity and hold those involved accountable, including the investigation of crimes such as international human trafficking for labor exploitation, slavery-like repression, criminal organization and other related crimes.
In addition to the search and seizure warrants and temporary arrest requests issued in Ceará, Maranhão, Paraná, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, the Federal Court also requested the blocking and seizure of assets and values exceeding 446 million reais and the suspension of commercial activities of the legal entities involved, as well as the suppression of two air bets.
