The Federal Police highlighted, in an expert report, that former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) suffered from a bilateral inguinal hernia and required elective surgery. Regarding the hiccups, the official expert confirmed that “phrenic nerve block is technically relevant” and also confirmed the need for surgery.
“This Medical Commission understands that it must be carried out as quickly as possible, taking into account the refractory nature to established treatments, the deterioration of sleep and nutrition, in addition to accelerating the risk of complications of hernia diseases, due to the increase in intra-abdominal pressure”, indicates the conclusion of the PF, sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), this Friday (12/19).
According to the PF’s medical commission, after reviewing the examinations and the former president, Bolsonaro “suffers from a bilateral inguinal hernia that requires elective surgical repair.”
Lawyer Paulo Cunha Bueno, who represents Bolsonaro, spoke after sending the expertise. “The report of the Federal Police, could not be otherwise, endorsed the diagnosis of the two doctors, so that hospitalization for surgery must be approved by the minister rapporteur,” he asked.
Once the report is ready and submitted, the decision whether or not to proceed with the operation and when will fall to Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
Skill
Bolsonaro underwent a medical examination last Wednesday (17/12), at the complex of the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police. The expertise was determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Court (STF), who also requested the sending of the examinations and medical reports presented by the defense of the former president for analysis by experts from the Federal Police (PF).
Moraes’ decision was made on Monday (15/12) and is part of the investigation into the need for possible surgery alleged by the former agent’s lawyers. The measure comes within the framework of the criminal execution resulting from the conviction of Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months in prison, in an initial closed regime.
The examinations and documents presented by the defense, as well as the assessment of Bolsonaro’s state of health, were analyzed to prepare the report.
Request for surgical intervention
Bolsonaro’s lawyers asked the STF minister for authorization to “urgently carry out surgical intervention”. The ultrasound performed last Sunday (14/12), according to the team, identified two inguinal hernias. The surgical intervention, recommended by the medical team, cannot be carried out in a prison environment. The estimated length of hospital stay varies between 5 and 7 days.
