According to the PF, the group operated on three fronts:
- The Chinese provided manipulation services on binary options platforms, which were purchased by those investigated and resold to others, with promises of exorbitant profits.
- Some of those interviewed hired digital influencers to promote betting and binary options platforms, with profits added to players’ losses captured by the influencer as a clause of the contract.
- Another group of respondents created their own binary options platform, through which they attracted clients. The group cited practices such as blocking accounts and blocking withdrawals when customers successfully traded on the platform.
In approximately two years, one of the people under investigation alone received more than 28.3 million reais without financial support.
Investigations also revealed that members of the group were involved in running unregulated online betting houses, prior to the criminal enterprise linked to binary options platforms.
Those under investigation could be charged with money laundering, currency evasion, tax evasion and digital fraud.
