Remember Brigitte Bardot’s relationship with the municipality
Throughout that year, Bardot visited the region twice. The first happened in January, where he stayed for about four months, in the Manguinhos region, alongside his then partner, producer Bob Zagury. The return took place in December, at a time when the artist’s presence was already attracting more attention from the press and the public.
According to businessman and researcher José Wilson Barbosa, the actress arrived in Brazil in search of peace and found in Búzios an isolated environment, with little infrastructure and few businesses. At the time, reports described the place as a “secret paradise,” far from traditional tourist routes.

The actress’s movements on beaches and city streets attracted the attention of journalists, photographers and foreign visitors. This movement directly contributed to the emergence of the first inns and the start of a tourism-driven economy. According to Barbosa, it was from this moment that Búzios began to be included in the international tourist circuit.
During her stay, Bardot maintained a simple routine, visiting beaches like Manguinhos and spending time with local residents, which deepened her curiosity about the destination.
