Planalto gave his approval to Mesías’s opinion against Gilmar’s decision

Palacio do Planalto agreed with the opinion that the head of the Attorney General’s Office (AGU), Jorge Mesías, questioned Gilmar Méndez’s decision to make requests for the dismissal of STF ministers difficult.

The article said that Messias, who was nominated by Lula for a vacant position on the court, consulted Planalto members before sending the demonstration. In the article, the African Union asked Gilmard to reconsider its decision, a request that the minister actually rejected.

President Lula himself indicated, according to Planalto sources, that he did not agree with Gilmar’s decision. The Labor Party member believes it is unbelievable that STF ministers enjoy even more privileges than the President of the Republic.

The opinion was sent on Wednesday (12/3), hours after Gilmar issued his decision. The Minister of the Supreme Court had requested the CAF statement since September, but the ministry had not sent it before so as not to jeopardize Messias’ candidacy.

The article found that Gilmard contacted the AGU Minister before the decision asking for his opinion. According to reports, Messias said the ministry would only speak publicly when the case was scheduled to be judged in a public hearing.

Annoyed, Gilmard cited in his decision the lack of an opinion from the AGU. “The Attorney General of the Union (sic) did not submit his statement either,” the STF Dean wrote on page seven of his order.

With Gilmar’s decision, Messias was forced to speak out, at the risk of his inaction being used against him in the Senate. The opinion was a nod to the senators. On the other hand, this angered Christ’s future co-workers.
