Three men were arrested in Bahia on suspicion of organizing a scheme to sell counterfeit tickets for theme parks in São Paulo.
According to police, the suspects created advertisements for three attractions in the capital São Paulo, including an aquarium. The crime allegedly took place in November. More than a thousand fake digital tickets were sold, generating a profit of around R$200,000.
People only discovered the scam when they were barred from the attractions.
The investigation reached the suspects after the Cybercrime Division managed to break the confidentiality of the fake page’s telematics data.
The actions against the gang took place this Tuesday (16) in Caculé, Vitória da Conquista and Presidente Jânio Quadros, all towns in Bahia.
The investigation, called Operation Mirage, was carried out by the DEIC (State Department of Criminal Investigation) of São Paulo, with the support of the Bahia Civil Police. The three must answer for embezzlement and criminal conspiracy.
The police investigation showed that the group created an operational structure, including specific functions.
The man designated as leader was responsible for accessing the fake sales pages, while the other two published the fake ads on the Internet and received the amounts obtained through falsification.
Search and seizure warrants were executed at three properties, two in Caculé and Presidente Jânio Quadros. Two laptops, an external hard drive and two mobile phones were seized.
Civil police have requested that the false address be removed from the airwaves.
