Leo XIV witnessed peaceful coexistence between various religions
Pope Leo
“What has happened in recent days in Turkey and Lebanon teaches us that peace is possible and that Christians, in dialogue with men and women of other religions and cultures, can contribute to its construction,” the pontiff stressed to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square, reaffirming once again: “Let us not forget that peace is possible.”
Referring to Lebanon as a “mosaic of social coexistence”, because it is the country with the greatest religious diversity in the Middle East, Robert Prévost declared that this scenario “reassures” him, after having heard “so many testimonies on this subject”.
“I met people who proclaim the Gospel by welcoming displaced people, visiting prisoners and sharing bread with those in need. It was comforting to see so many people in the streets who greeted me and I was moved to meet the families of the victims of the Beirut port explosion,” the Pope said, adding that “the Lebanese were waiting for a word and a presence of comfort, but it was they who comforted me with their faith and their enthusiasm.”
Finally, Leo
May we “renew our commitment in the path towards the full and visible unity of all Christians,” concluded Prévost.
