Populist tycoon Andrej Babis, 71 years old and leader of the liberal ANO party, was appointed Prime Minister of the Czech Republic this Tuesday (December 9, 2025) after winning the parliamentary elections in October, allying himself with two Eurosceptic parties and promising to separate from his company to avoid conflicts of interest.
“I promise all citizens that I will fight for their interests, not only at home but around the world,” Babis said after receiving the appointment from the head of state, former general Petr Pavel, at an event at Prague Castle, home of the Czech presidency, that was broadcast live on television.
