Gorillas received Christmas bags full of snacks and saki monkeys received festive stockings on Tuesday at London Zoo, as part of the Magic of Christmas celebrations. The initiative was prepared by park rangers, who created food and environmental incentives for the animals during the holiday season.
In the gorilla enclosure, decorated bags held the group’s favorite foods. Dominant male Kiburi attracted attention when he sat down with two bags at a time to explore the contents, while young Gernot was seen running around with arms full of ‘presents’. The activity stimulated the species’ natural foraging behavior.

In the Rainforest Life area, which is home to reptiles, sloths and different species of monkeys, Christmas stockings filled with candy corn were hung between the branches. The saki monkeys jumped from one sock to another to feed, exploring the warm environment of their habitat. Watch the video of the action:
London Zoo is home to more than 8,000 animals, many of which are threatened with extinction or have already disappeared in the wild, and participates in vital breeding and conservation programs. During the holiday season, visitors can see Venus, Juno and the rest of the gorilla group in the Gorilla Kingdom space.
From November 22 to January 4, the zoo is transformed into a Christmas setting, with attractions for children and families, such as the search for hidden elves, special storytime sessions and surprise appearances from Santa Claus.

Magic of Christmas tickets are included in the regular admission price. According to the institution, each visit over the festive period directly contributes to the science and conservation projects of ZSL, the organization responsible for London Zoo, aimed at protecting and restoring wildlife in different parts of the world.
