The PSOE of Extremadura urged this Thursday the President of the Council and candidate for re-election of the PP, María Guardiola, to eliminate from her electoral list the provincial president of the PP of Badajoz, Manuel Naharro, for an alleged case of “sexual harassment”. “When are you going to give explanations and when are you going to stop? You have until today to do it,” said the spokesperson for the Socialist Electoral Commission, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna.
Rodríguez Osuna criticized the leader of the Popular Party for censoring cases of sexual harassment that affect the PSOE in other territories of the country, but not doing so with those that occur within the ranks of his own party because “here is a case about which María Guardiola has said nothing and must show her face.”
On this subject, he stressed that “it has been proven” that Manuel Naharro – provincial president of the PP of Badajoz, vice-president of the Assembly of Extremadura and number 3 on the PP list for the Parliament of the province of Badajoz in the regional elections of December 21 – “offered jobs in exchange for explicit sexual relations”. “A confirmed case, this is the only case in Spain that is still in office,” said Rodríguez Osuna, who urged Guardiola to “immediately dismiss” Naharro, removing him from his electoral list, expelling him from the party and also from the Extremadura Assembly.
The spokesperson for the PSOE electoral commission also asked him to open an internal investigation to determine responsibilities “for having remained silent for so many months about a case of sexual harassment on the part of his right arm of the party in Extremadura”. “Months of knowledge, months of public complaints, months on social networks and in the media,” urged the socialist leader, who also asked for explanations from the national president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
Rodríguez Osuna stressed that Guardiola “cannot give lessons on anything, and even less to the PSOE of Extremadura”, and told him that he had the opportunity to demonstrate that his commitment against sexual harassment is real “by sacking Manuel Naharro and removing him from the list”.
Electoral debate on Canal Extremadura TV
Furthermore, regarding the electoral debate this evening on Canal Extremadura Televisión with the ten candidates for the presidency of the Council, he indicated that the socialist candidate approaches it “with great calm” because the PSOE has “the best project for Extremadura” and because Miguel Ángel Gallardo comes with his personal support to 20 years of government in the City Hall of Villanueva de la Serena and ten years as president of the Foral Deputation of Badajoz.
He also criticized the fact that regional television refused to organize a four-way debate, between the candidates of the forces represented in the Assembly, and a face-to-face between Gallardo and Guardiola, saying that “this is of no interest”, for which he accused Guardiola of “hiding” for not wanting to participate in a debate in these formats and the management of the public entity of being “complicit” in this maneuver.
On the other hand, the spokesperson for the Electoral Commission said he was convinced that the electoral result of December 21 “will be very different” from the scenario traced by the polls – which predict a defeat of the PSOE – because the political position of citizens can change and there are those who only decide the meaning of their vote on election day.
