The minister is about to leave the Network after friction with federal deputy Heloísa Helena
BRASÍLIA – The PSOL has entered the running to join the party of the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva. With Marina set to leave Rede Sustentabilidade due to a rift with federal deputy Heloísa Helena (RJ), the party wants her to sit on the board so she can run for the São Paulo Senate. However, the minister’s name is also contested by the PT and the PSB.
Marina is already affiliated with both parties. For the PT, she served as Senator of Acre and Minister of Environment during the first and second terms of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). In the pessebista ranks, she came in third place in the presidential race in 2014, when she was still trying to register the Sustainability Network alongside her then-ally, Heloísa Helena.
At the PSOL, one of the organizers of the rapprochement is the Minister of the General Secretariat, Guilherme Boulos, who recently arrived in Esplanada after becoming Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency in October. Former PSOL president Juliano Medeiros was also chosen to try to convince Marina to join the party.
The possible transition of the minister to the PSOL is part of a strategy defined by the party to increase its national relevance. As shown in Stage/Broadcastthe acronym wants to launch known names in the Senate race, such as former federal deputy Manuela d’Ávila (RS) and federal deputy Luizianne Lins (CE). In the race for the Chamber of Pernambuco, the party is expected to launch communicator Jones Manoel, who has 2.5 million followers on social networks.
However, eight months after the start of the electoral campaign, the uncertainty regarding the contest for the Senate in São Paulo hampers the partisan movement of the head of the Environment. With the desire to return to the Senate after 16 years, Marina awaits the definition of the bases of the Lula government for the names of the two candidates of the progressive camp for the campaign in São Paulo.
Alongside him, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), and the Vice-President and Minister of Development, Trade and Industry, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), would be candidates for a senatorial seat. It is also possible that the Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet (MDB), changes her electoral domicile, currently in Mato Grosso do Sul, to run for the Senate in São Paulo.
A survey by the Real Time Big Data institute, published on December 2, shows that in a scenario in which Marina competes alongside Haddad against the Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite (PP), the Vice Mayor of São Paulo, Coronel Mello Araújo (PL), and the Federal Deputy Ricardo Salles (Novo), the Minister of the Environment occupies third place, but tied on the margin of error with Derrite in the lead and with Mello Araújo and Salles, who arrive. there is soon.
According to the survey, Haddad holds 19%, tied with Derrite, who comes in with 18%. Marina has 12%, while Mello Araújo and Salles appear with 11% each. The institute surveyed 1,500 people between November 29 and December 1. The margin of error is three percentage points, give or take, and the reliability rate is 95%.
In April this year, Marina was defeated in the internal elections of the Network for Heloísa Helena’s group, when Paulo Lamac was elected new spokesperson for the party. Marina’s wing attempted to judicialize the electoral process, but an injunction was overturned just hours before the election.
According to sources heard by Stage/Broadcastwith the arrival of Heloísa Helena in the Chamber, where she will act as substitute during the suspension of the federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ), suspended until June, the departure of Marina from Rede Sustentabilidade is imminent.
