After the Chamber of Deputies archived the process of revoking the deputy’s mandate Carla Zambelli (PL-SP)in the early hours of this Thursday (11), the leader of the PT in the House, deputy Lindbergh Farias (RJ)filed a request for mandamus with the Federal Court (STF) to compel the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB)declaring the loss of the parliamentarian’s mandate.
“What happened yesterday is absurd, but the mistake was made by the Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta,” he said.
According to him, the goal is for the Supreme Court to take a “tougher decision” forcing the Speaker of the House to declare the loss of her mandate – who is imprisoned in Italy.
“What we want to ask is that the Chamber Council complies with the court decision,” he told reporters. “If he does not respect this court decision, he commits embezzlement and commits an offense of responsibility,” declared the deputy.
Zambelli was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Supreme Court for participating in the invasion of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) systems. In addition to the sentence handed down by the regime, STF ministers ordered the loss of his position. There is also a second conviction against Zambelli, for illegal possession of a firearm.
The parliamentarian fled Brazil shortly after her conviction was confirmed and has been imprisoned for three months in Italy, where she awaits analysis of the extradition process. In February, she must exceed the absence limits and end up losing her parliamentary mandate, but she will retain her political rights.
Lindbergh reiterated that Hugo Motta “loses the conditions to be president” and said that the vote on the impeachment procedures of MP Glauber Braga (Psol-RJ) and Carla Zambelli, in which both managed to retain their mandate, represents “a very big defeat for those who think they are in charge here.”
He also said that Glauber’s continued mandate was not only a victory for the parliamentarian, but also for the government, which acted and spoke out in favor of overturning the sanction and suspending the MP – a much milder sanction than dismissal, which was already taken for granted.
