PT leaders are working, behind the scenes, to establish a name different from that indicated by Fernando Haddad to succeed him as head of the Ministry of Finance in 2026.
Haddad, as reported by Metropolisesinformed Lula of his intention to leave command of the economic team by April to help the president in his re-election campaign.

To replace him, Haddad named his number two in the portfolio, Dario Durigan. The two have known each other since Durigan advised Haddad as mayor of São Paulo.
Durigan’s name, however, faces resistance within the PT and among the ministers of the Palácio do Planalto. The criticism is that the current number 2 in the Treasury has no connection with the party.
Faced with this, PT members and Planalto ministers began to defend other names to succeed Haddad. One of them is Bruno Moretti, current chairman of the board of directors of Petrobras.

The PT cannot afford not to have Haddad in the elections, says its leader
A career civil servant at the Ministry of Planning, Moretti combines his position within the oil company with that of special secretary for government analysis at the Civil House, a department headed by Rui Costa, member of the PT.
The server name has the support of Rui Costa and other government ministers. The economist is also very popular with members of the financial sector consulted by the column.
If Lula is not chosen for Finance, members of the government say that Moretti succeeds the current Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet, who will also leave her post by April.
Haddad’s allies defend Durigan
Haddad’s allies, for their part, believe that Dario Durigan would be the ideal name to succeed the minister because he already knows the entire structure of the ministry. So this would be considered “continuity”.
Durigan arrived at the Finance Ministry in mid-2023, after the department’s then-executive secretary, Gabriel Galípolo, was appointed by Lula to the Central Bank’s board of directors.
Haddad’s number 2 also served in other PT governments. He was part of the Deputy Chief of Legal Affairs (SAJ) of the Presidency during the government of Dilma Rousseff.
