
The Ministry of Transport is launching a call for tenders for a study on how to increase capacity of the section of line 3 of Surroundingsbetween stations Industrial San Cristóbal and Aranjuez avoid traffic jams that occur at certain times of the day and improve rail traffic, not only on the Madrid network, but also with Castile-La Mancha and practically dormitory towns of Madrid like Sesenain the province of Toledo.
The Public Sector Contracts Platform published this Tuesday the announcement of the award of a study for study “all kinds of alternatives” to increase railway capacity in the section that passes through the stations and stops in operation, in progress or out of service of San Cristóbal Industrial, El Casar, Getafe Industrial, La Tenería, Pinto, Valdemoro, Ciempozuelos, Seseña and Aranjuez. It has a budget of 423,500 euros and must be developed within two years.
In this section of the C-3 line coexist different types of rail traffic and at different speedssuch as Cercanías, medium-distance trains and freight trains, which make “operational reliability” difficult. To improve it, the ministry is open to exploring everything, from improving the signaling systems and enhanced security implement two other routes part or all of the section.
Transports assures that with the opening of the procedure for drafting the study, the Minister, Oscar Puentefulfills the commitment of “quadruple the lanes in the section between Seseña and Madrid” which he contracted during a meeting last April with the mayors and deputies of Castilla-La Mancha. In addition to improving traffic in this part of the Madrid Cercanías network, the objective is also to improve it between the center and the south of the peninsula.
In addition to “improving the overall functionality” of the Madrid-Aranjuez corridor, the aim is to improve travel times for regional trains between Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, with locations such as Alcázar de San Juan, Manzanares or Valdepeñas.
