Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to talk to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron about the war in Ukraine, said Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov in an interview published on Sunday (December 21, 2025).
Putin “expressed his willingness to hold talks with Macron,” Peskov told the state news agency RIA Novisti.
“So if there is a common political will, then this can only be viewed positively,” he added.
Macron had previously said that he believed Europe should re-engage with Putin on ending the war.
“I think that is what interests us as Europeans and Ukrainians, to find the appropriate framework to return to this discussion in the coming weeks,” the French leader said.
The European Union agreed last Friday to loan Ukraine 90 billion euros without resorting to frozen Russian assets.
