STF ministers received with surprise the news that Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) has been chosen as his father’s candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2026 elections.
The Supreme Court ministers’ bet heard in the article was that Bolsonaro would cling to a “more solid” candidacy, hoping to get a pardon to get out of prison.

The Frente members’ assessment was that the “strongest” candidate in the center-right camp would be the candidate for the governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans).
One influential Supreme Court minister commented on the article with reservations, saying: “I thought Bolsonaro’s tendency would be to side with a viable candidate.”

Another STF member estimated that the former president’s choice of Flavio must be linked to the Bolsonaro clan’s desire to have a family member on the presidential ticket.
There is also a bet among some Supreme Court ministers that Bolsonaro may reverse the decision and resume the plan to launch Tarcisio as a candidate and one of his family members as vice president.
