Authorities were called to the State Street apartment after the resident reported the intruder. When police arrived, they found that all of the Christmas presents near the sofa had been unwrapped. The door to the house was locked, but the bathroom window was left open — a possible entry point, according to police reports.
Funny comment from the police
Harvey was identified because of his previous interactions with customers, and did not provide a coherent justification for his presence at the property. in Share FacebookBangor police commented on the episode with slight sarcasm: “Surprises like this don’t put us in a festive mood, but even the Grinch has realized that the chimney is always an option.”
This case prompted police to strengthen their recommendations to the public regarding home security, advising residents to keep doors and windows closed and avoid leaving gifts and packages in plain sight, whether at home or in vehicles, especially during the holiday shopping period.
This post caused a great resonance among Facebook users, as many of them were more surprised by the progress in which the gifts had actually been wrapped than by the crime itself. “Didn’t anyone else like the fact that they actually wrapped the presents a month before Christmas?” asked one netizen. Others commented that they avoid setting everything up ahead of time so they don’t have to repeat the work.
Harvey was charged with aggravated criminal trespass and remains in custody while the case remains under investigation.
