Left-back Renan Lodi can no longer contain his anxiety at the prospect of starting work at Atlético-MG, his new club. In a statement to Galo TV, published last Saturday (27/12), the 27-year-old revealed his expectations of working with coach Jorge Sampaoli.
According to Lodi, the Argentinian demands too much from his athletes, which then contributes to the development of the players. He revealed his anxiety about working with the coach.
“I’m very excited. All the players who played with him (Sampaoli) speak very well of him. He’s a very tough coach, who loves football a lot. It’s very important for the evolution of the athlete. All the athletes who play with him give the best of themselves and also evolve. The player who doesn’t evolve with him, it’s because he doesn’t want to. I’m very looking forward to working with him and evolving too”, he declared.
Known for his offensive power, Renan Lodi also revealed that his experience outside Brazil helped him improve in the defensive sector. He thus becomes for him a “more complete” player after stints at Atlético de Madrid, Nottingham Forest, Marseille and Al-Hilal.
“Everywhere I went, I learned every moment. At Atlético Madrid I learned one thing, at Marseille another, at Al-Hilal too. My characteristic is that of a very offensive player, but I also evolved a lot defensively. Today I am a more solid full-back. I can understand the concepts of the game. Everywhere I went, I evolved, creating a shell. Today I can say that I am a more complete full-back,” he said.
