Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, died from “multiple sharps injuries,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s (IML) office concluded. The couple was found dead in the house where they lived in California last Sunday (12/14).
The report also highlights that both men were victims of homicide. According to the findings of local investigators, the killer is one of the couple’s sons, Nick Reiner.

At a press conference last Tuesday (16/12), the Los Angeles County prosecutor claimed that he used a knife to kill his parents.
IML records indicate that the couple’s remains can be freely released to their next of kin.
Investigation
The investigation concluded that Nick Reiner is responsible for the murder of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

We still don’t know what motivated this crime. The day before his death, Nick was seen arguing with his father at a holiday party at the home of comedian Conan O’Brien.
Children break the silence
The family of director Rob Reiner and actress Michele Reiner spoke for the first time this Wednesday (12/17). “Words cannot describe the unimaginable pain we feel every moment. The horrible and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something no one should ever experience. They were not just our parents; they were our best friends,” reads the text sent by the couple’s children to TMZ.
“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, affection and support we have received not only from our family and friends, but from people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, that speculation be tempered with compassion and humanity, and that our parents be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave,” he concludes.
Besides Nick, Rob Reiner and Michele were also the parents of Jake and Romy. The filmmaker was also the father of Tracy, the result of his relationship with Penny Marshall.
