Rio de Janeiro’s production was the main positive influence for the industry in October, with an increase of 4.1% compared to September.
The data comes from the Regional Monthly Industrial Survey (Pim Regional), from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In Brazilian average, the sector recorded an increase of 0.1%.
The 4.1% increase, however, does not compensate for the accumulated loss of 6% in the industry in Rio de Janeiro over the previous two months.
“The extractive sectors, chemicals and petroleum derivatives were those that most influenced this positive movement this month,” says Bernardo Almeida, research analyst.
The second largest positive impact came from Minas Gerais, with an increase in production of 2.1%, driven by the extractive sector. This is a third consecutive increase, with a cumulative gain of 3.5%.
