Rio de Janeiro tied with Sao Paulo for the Libertadores titles. See list

Rio de Janeiro tied with Sao Paulo in the number of Libertadores titles. The draw came after Flamengo’s victory over Palmeiras in the final of the tournament in 2025. As a result, the capital of Rio qualified for the seventh cup, to the same extent that the city of São Paulo achieved.

It is worth noting that Santos, who has three titles, does not count. The team is based on the coast of Sao Paulo and is therefore not part of the capital of Sao Paulo. In front of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, only Montevideo and Avellaneda appear with eight each, and Buenos Aires has 13 Copa Libertadores titles.

Cities with the most Libertadores titles:

1. Buenos Aires – 13 titles; 2. Montevideo – 8 titles; 2. Avellaneda – 8 titles; 4. Sao Paulo – 7 titles; 4. Rio de Janeiro – 7 titles.
