MetrôRio begins, this Monday the 15th, the sale of boarding passports in the system for the New Year’s Eve 2026 round trip, to Copacabana beach. For the second year in a row, the special tickets are digital, via QR Code, and can be purchased through the app, the MetrôRio website (https://metrorio.com.br/) or in person at three MetrôRio stations, where passengers can purchase the QR Code printed on paper. These are: Del Castilho, Carioca/Centro and Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca, which will operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
New this year is the return bracelet, which will be given as soon as the customer validates the special ticket at the turnstiles on the way to the event, and which aims to speed up and improve the return boarding flow. The price of a metro passport for New Year’s Eve in Copacabana is R$15, which entitles you to the event and back.
However, as of December 22, digital tickets continue to be sold exclusively through the dealer’s official app or website. The digital sale will close at 6 p.m. on the 31st or earlier if sold out. Only passengers with a subway return passport will be able to board the system during the special New Year’s Eve operation, starting at 7 p.m. and returning until 5 a.m. on the 1st.
For departure, customers will be able to choose, at the time of purchase, five time slots: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.; from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.; 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.; and 11 p.m. at midnight. On the return trip, boarding takes place at no fixed time, only with the use of the return bracelet (acquired on presentation of the QR Code ticket during outbound boarding).
The return bracelet is mandatory for boarding after the event in Copacabana. Even those who do not use the QR Code along the way and board the metro after midnight must remove the bracelet, which can only be done at Siqueira Campos, Cantagalo, General Osório and Jardim Oceânico stations, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the 31st.
