The California court is evaluating the possibility of applying the death penalty to Nick Reiner, 32, accused of the murder of his own parents, director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner. The accused made his first appearance in a Los Angeles court this Wednesday (12/17) and will remain in jail without bail until the prosecutor defines the formal charge.
The hearing to read the complaint has been postponed and is scheduled to take place on January 7. During the session, Nick appeared in police custody, separated from the public by a glass partition. The case is being treated as a capital homicide with aggravating circumstances.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of aggravated homicide, citing the fact that it was a double murder and the use of a knife or other deadly weapon as aggravating factors. If convicted, Nick could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
According to the international press, the decision on the sentence that will be requested has not yet been taken and will depend on the detailed analysis of the evidence collected by the investigation.
