Two people were found dead at the home of actor, director and producer Rob Reiner in Los Angeles, California. Police authorities are investigating the circumstances of these deaths, which appear to be a double homicide, as the city police reported in a statement on Sunday evening (14).
According to California Governor Gavin Newsom, the victims are Rob Reiner himself, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 70. Previously, authorities had indicated that this was the age of the victims, but did not confirm that it was the couple.
A police official told Reuters that the two men were found at a property in West Los Angeles that later turned out to be Reiner’s, according to public records. In a statement the company sent to The New York Times, Capt. Mike Bland said officers responded to the incident in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue around 3:40 p.m.
The TMZ site was one of the first to confirm these deaths, even before the announcement was made official by any authority.
Reiner starred in the hit 1970s CBS comedy series “All in the Family” and directed several well-known films, including “The Princess Bride,” “This is Spinal Tap,” “Harry and Sally,” “Stand by Me” and “The American President.”
His wife, Michele, was a photographer and took the portrait of Donald Trump that appears on the cover of his book “Trump: The Art of the Deal.”
In addition to his Hollywood career, Rob Reiner, a New York native and son of the late comedian and actor Carl Reiner, was well known for his political activism.
He appeared in ads critical of George W. Bush during the 2004 presidential election and supported then-Democratic candidate John Kerry. He also showed support for Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Hillary Clinton.
Reiner was first married to Penny Marshall, who played Laverne on “Laverne & Shirley” and was also a producer and director. He later married actress Michele Singer, with whom he had three children.
