Witnesses reported that two men on motorcycles attempted to steal a luxury car that was passing on the road. However, officers from the Military Police Barracks spotted the attempted theft and responded to the criminal action. Thus, an armed confrontation took place.
During an exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was hit and died of his injuries. A pedestrian who was passing through the area at the time of the incident was also shot, but he was rescued and taken to the Souza Aguiar municipal hospital in central Rio. According to the G1 portal, it is stable.
In an official note, the Eastern Military Command (EMC) said that after the incident, an investigation was carried out in the area and a Military Police Investigation (MPI) was launched to investigate the circumstances of what happened in the area.
The CML also said it remains committed to legality, public order and cooperation with civil authorities to fully clarify the facts.
