The actor Rômulo Aranes Neto spoke about the death of his father, Rômulo Arantes
Far from the soap operas since a particular appearance in Fuzuê (2023), Romulo Arantes Neto opened his heart by revisiting one of the most significant losses of his life: the premature death of his father, Romulo Arantesin 2000. The actor was only a few years old when the former Olympic swimmer died at the age of 42, the victim of a plane crash with an ultralight aircraft. In a recent interview, he opened up about how this heartbreak cut through his personal and emotional formation.
Thinking about the relationship between father and son, Romulo Arantes Neto describes an intense relationship, based on affection and sport. “I was completely in love with him and I was a big fan of his. Charismatic, gentle, he taught me all the sports. We had a relationship that was very beautiful”he said. The sudden absence required drastic changes: the actor had to change homes and start living with his mother, facing a silent process of pain. “It was very painful and I kept everything to myself”he recalled.
Grief, therapy and refuge in sport
During the conversation with Cissa Guimarães, Romulo Arantes Neto highlighted the impact of losing her father at such a young age, especially when she realizes that she is now approaching the same age when he died. “It was a painful process and I suffered a lot alone”he said, explaining that he sought support in therapy to get through this period. Little by little, according to him, it was possible to find ways to live with the absence. “Little by little, we try to heal the pain because it hurts a lot, and life goes on”.
Sport, a direct legacy from his father, has become a fundamental instrument on this path. “One thing that has always helped me is playing sports. It was really a safety valve”said the actor when explaining why he has always had an intense relationship with physical activity. “It’s therapy and the way I found to release my pain”he added. Romulo Arantesin addition to being an actor, he was one of the biggest names in Brazilian swimming, national champion and representative of the country in three editions of the Olympic Games. For his son, this trajectory remains alive not only in his memory, but in his body and in his way of facing life.
