Barreras stated in his statement that the consultation must reflect the diversity of the progressive sector and that Cepeda’s presence can contribute to the process of expression that has been underway for several weeks.
The pre-candidate stressed that his position is based on the appropriateness of an open practice for measuring support within the project that seeks to unite a broad front with the aim of presidential elections.
For him, the participation of various leaders is consistent with the direction taken by the parties and movements promoting the initiative.

In this context, he highlighted his expectations regarding the decision of the National Electoral Council, the entity that must respond to the requests submitted during this pre-election phase.
Barreras confirmed this in his public statement “Unity is victory. Unity means having these two paths to ensure that the desire for change among Colombian families, True change, progress, progress, growth, security and peace will be addressed on Sunday, March 8. It’s the perfect situation in a presidential consultation where we can come together. We will compete for unity, that is what I hope. That is why I have said publicly that I hope, while respecting the independence of the National Electoral Council, that my colleague of many years in the Senate, Ivan Cepeda, can participate in the consultations, compete with me, and ensure that these two paths are combined.”
This statement became one of the main axes of its approach, pointing out that Cepeda’s participation could contribute to enhancing internal competition.
In parallel, Senator Ivan Cepeda confirmed that he is in dialogue with other political organizations to structure the broad front and that his intention is to participate in the consultation scheduled for March.

The congressman explained that the discussions seek to establish the broad outlines by which the party mechanism will be presented, as well as the procedures required to make his ambition official.
Cepeda explained that the process includes coordination with the various sectors that have expressed interest in clarifying efforts within the broad front proposal. The Senator indicated this in his statement “That’s right, we are conducting this process, we are having intensive talks with other political forces, we will structure the broad front and we will implement the measures on December 8. According to the electoral calendar, we should ask the political parties to hold these consultations, so we will do that as well.”. This statement reflects the intention to advance within the times specified by the electoral schedule.
Meanwhile, other organizations also expressed their willingness to participate in the March 8 consultations. The Forward Party, led by former candidate Juan Fernando Cristo, sent a letter to the National Electoral Council requesting that it be taken into consideration in the measure. This trend is in addition to the efforts made by various sectors to determine their presence in the party mechanism that is being prepared at the beginning of next year.
The activity of registering candidates for Congress in Bogotá, as well as the statements of Barreras and Cepeda, marked a new moment in the preparation for the consultation. The various sectors continue to adjust their strategies and procedures, awaiting the decisions that must be adopted by the National Electoral Council on the applications submitted.
