In the penultimate month of 2025, the local automobile market showed split behavior between zero-kilometer vehicles and used vehicles.
While new registrations recorded annual growth of 19.8% – i.e. in the same period but last year – handovers of used vehicles suffered a decline of 15.5% compared to the same month in 2024.
The data, which comes from the economic report of the Chamber of Commerce of La Plata, confirmed a trend that has consolidated in the last half of the year: greater dynamism in the 0 km run and a more cautious second-hand market.
However, compared to other geographical levels, La Plata’s performance was particularly relevant.
The local growth in patents far exceeded that of Buenos Aires province (1.2 percent above) and was also higher than the national result, which recorded a decline of 2 percent. In the transfer segment, on the other hand, the decline recorded in the city was slightly greater than that observed both in the nation (-13.0%) and in the rest of Buenos Aires (-14.8%), confirming that the second-hand market experienced a moment of greater relative weakness at the local level in November.
the last six years
Over the past six years, the historical average in La Plata for this period has been 10,200 registrations of 0 km vehicles. However, in the eleven months of 2025, 12,318 registrations were registered, a positive difference of 21 percentage points compared to the average. This result placed the city just below the national level, which was 22 points above its own historical average, and slightly above the performance of Buenos Aires Province, which achieved a positive deviation of 20 points.
In the used car market, La Plata’s historical average is 33,200 transactions between January and November. So far in 2025, 36,402 transfers have been completed, 10 percentage points more than the average over the last six years. In this case, local performance was consistent with what was happening both nationally and across the province, where similar numbers were also observed above historical averages.
Another relevant fact is the city’s weight in the Buenos Aires market. In November, the city’s participation in the transfer segment was below its historical average, estimated at around 5.5%, while 0km registrations regained ground and reached levels close to those recorded at the beginning of the year. These data reflect a relative repositioning of the local market, with patenting more prominent than second-hand stores.
November
Compared to previous months, the gap between the two segments widened in the eleventh month. There was a more moderate decline in the used market in October, and the decline increased in November. The 0km market, on the other hand, continued its growth trajectory, supported by a more favorable environment for access to credit and greater availability of units.
The general balance sheet shows a scenario of a partial recovery of the La Plata automobile market.
New cars continue to gain traction, positioning the city above the provincial average and in a better relative situation than the national average. Used vehicles, on the other hand, continue to show signs of fragility and greater sensitivity to the economic climate.
