La Moncloa recognizes the right of the second vice-president of the government, Yolanda Díaz, to give her opinion on the need for a profound overhaul of the Executive in the face of crisis triggered by cases of corruption and sexual harassmentbut does not share his idea and recalls that changes within the cabinet are an exclusive prerogative of President Pedro Sánchez.
Government sources consulted by EFE also point out that no minister is involved in cases of alleged corruption or harassment that come to light, they therefore see no reason to reshape the government.
This is how Moncloa responded after Díaz declared that “It can’t continue like this” and that the Executive must undertake “profound change” as well as take “immediate” and “severe” measures. According to the vice president, this is how he was transferred these days and this Friday to Sánchez himself.
“What we are experiencing is unbearable: It’s corruption, it’s shameless people, it’s machismo, it’s boredom.…we can’t take it anymore,” added Díaz, who knows the president’s powers, but insisted that the executive “must be reformulated in depth.”
The sources consulted downplay these comments and insist that Sánchez is satisfied with the current government. “Absolute tranquility”they underline before the press conference that the President of the Government plans to hold next Monday at Moncloa to take stock of the year and review the objectives achieved.
