São Paulo wants to maintain the good results of 2025 in 2026 with its under-20 team. Despite the early schedule, with the Paulistão starting in early January and the Brasileirão in sequence, Tricolor defined that it would not use players from the youth category in the main team. With this, the club will do its best to participate in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior.
Tricolor are the current champions of the competition and recently won the Copa do Brasil title in this category. In fact, some players even got first-team opportunities in the final stretch of the season, such as Nicolas, Paulinho, Pedro Ferreira and Lucca. However, only the latter should continue with the professionals to compete in the Campeonato Paulista.
The definition of the 30 players who will be registered for the tournament should only take place on January 2, the date on which the French squad returns from vacation. São Paulo makes its debut in the competition two days later, on the 4th. The Morumbis club is part of group 19 of the tournament, based in Sorocaba, alongside Real Soccer, Independente, from Amapá, and Maruinense, from Sergipe.
Young players are expected to find room throughout the season. In addition to helping on the field, Cotia’s descendants can provide financial assistance to the club. After all, São Paulo is facing financial difficulties and the negotiation of grassroots athletes could provide reinforcement to the tricolor treasury.
