Search for Fernando Martín and three of his children resumes after shipwreck in Indonesia

Indonesian rescue teams resumed this Sunday the search operation for the Spaniard Fernando Martín and three of his children, missing since Friday after the sinking of a boat in the waters of Padar Islandeast of Bali.

“The operation resumed at 6:30 a.m. local time (10:30 p.m. GMT, Saturday),” Fathur Rahman, director of rescue team in the Maumere regionmission manager.

The boat for tourist use, called KM Putri Sakinahsank in the waters of Padar around 8:30 p.m. Friday (1:30 p.m. GMT), after which a search was activated using boats and diving equipment.

During this third day, research will focus on “determine the position of the ship’s hull” sank since, according to the testimony of the ship’s captain, the four missing people were last seen in their cabin.

“We have prepared diversbut we need to secure the location of the remains of the ship,” Fathur remarked, after search teams found remains of the ship floating yesterday.

The four missing are Fernando Martín Carreras, former footballer and coach of the Valencia CF women’s B team, and three of his children – two boys and a girl –according to data provided to Efe by the Indonesian SAR emergency service.

They were traveling with them on the damaged boat. the mother, Andrea Ortuño, and another of the daughterswho were rescued along with four crew members and a tour guide.

The mission is conditioned by the strong underwater currents and bad weather which is plaguing the region, rescuers point out today.

According to the preliminary incident report, the boat’s engine broke down which caused the shipwreck.

The missing people are from Valencia, in eastern Spain, and the Spanish Foreign Ministry is already in contact with their relatives.
