Early in the evening of this Sunday 12/7, in Doha, Qatar (early afternoon, Brasilia time), Flamengo carried out training at CT Al Ersaalwhich Croatia used in the World Cup. It was the players’ first activity in Qatar, in preparation for Wednesday’s match against Mexican side Cruz Azul in the quarter-finals of the Intercontinental Cup, also in Doha.
The training was light, just to keep the athletes active after the 16-hour flight from Rio to Qatar. The team arrived around 8 a.m. (Brasilia time) and, before working on the field, carried out exercises in the gymnasium.
Flamengo will train again on Monday and Tuesday, at the same location. Tomorrow, coach Felipe LuÃs will probably have his full squad at his disposal, with the arrival of the four players who strengthened the under-30 team in the 3-3 draw against Mirassol. They are: Michael, Everton Araújo, Wallace Yan and Dyogo Alves. The quartet boarded a commercial flight for Doha on Sunday, while the rest of the delegation traveled on Saturday aboard a chartered Boeing.
Flamengo’s strengths for the duel against Cruz Azul
For the match against Cruz Azul, Flamengo will have important differences. While his players last played in the victory against Ceará on Wednesday and were away on Saturday, Cruz Azul played a very tough match in the semi-final of the Mexican championship against the Tigres this Saturday and will only travel to Qatar this Sunday, after being eliminated. In other words, Flamengo, champion of the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship a few days ago, arrives excited, while Cruz Azul regrets its elimination. Additionally, the defender Orozcoone of the main players of the Mexican team, was seriously injured against the Tigres and will be absent for a long period.
It is worth remembering that the winner of Flamengo x Cruz Azul will face the Egyptians of PyramidsAfrican champion, who eliminated the champions of Oceania and Asia in the preliminary stages, in the semi-finals on the 14th.
