Hit by a gunshot while flying over Vila Aliança, in the western zone of Rio, during an operation against drug trafficking, the co-pilot of the Special Resources Coordination (Core), Felipe Marques Monteiro, aged 45, will be released from hospital this Monday. He was admitted to the São Lucas Copacabana Hospital, which is part of Rede Américas.
The officer was shot in the head on March 20, 2025, when the plane he was on was shot down. He suffered serious head injuries and was at risk of death at the time.
According to Renato Ribeiro, director of the São Lucas Copacabana Medical Clinic, Felipe remained in intensive care for more than seven months, underwent several neurosurgeries and other complex procedures – including interventions due to skullcap damage – and remained in a coma for a long time. Throughout the treatment, he was closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team from the unit.
“Felipe’s journey is not yet over. He will be transferred to a health unit focused on rehabilitation, where he will have the opportunity to advance even further in his locomotor and cognitive recovery, which should bring him important gains in his quality of life. He is a warrior who never stopped fighting for his life and who had the full support of his family, a fundamental element of his recovery and adherence to treatment,” said the doctor.
