Sergio Camargo in DF: a free mega-exhibition of one of the greatest Brazilian sculptors is now open to the public at the National Theater
The opening of the exhibition was attended by authorities, guests and admirers of the brilliant sculptor, as well as Camargo’s family, who came to Brasilia exclusively to witness this unprecedented exhibition. Among those present was Sergio’s ex-wife, former Rio de Janeiro state deputy Aspásia Camargo.
At the opening of the event, the sociologist underlined the emotion of seeing so many of the artist’s works brought together in a major exhibition. “This space is the natural habitat of his work. The white of Brasilia, the strength of the light, everything works in its favor. There is a grandeur that adds up: that of the city, that of the National Theater and that of the children who interact with the forms he created”, he commented to Metropolises.

Aspásia also revealed that the last time she saw so many of Camargo’s works together was in the 1970s. She was also touched by the interactivity, because some creations are sensory, such as the Chess Set which, from the opening night, delighted the children. “It moves me a lot, it reminds me of the boy he was. Marcello’s idea of creating this children’s corner, this playful experience, was simply wonderful.”

Exhibition promoted by Metropoles
THE Metropolises continues to expand its presence on the country’s cultural map, strengthening its role in promoting fashion, sports, music and the arts. Today, the movement takes on a new dimension by occupying one of the most symbolic spaces in the capital: the Foyer of the Villa-Lobos Hall, in the monumental Teatro Nacional, where the city breathes architecture, history and creation.
The exhibition, free and open to the public from December 10, remains visible until March 6 and gives visitors a feeling of belonging to a dynamic cultural center. The same space that recently received the Metropolises paraded — transforming Brasilia into the epicenter of Brazilian fashion and bringing together designers, models and creators from different regions — is once again activated by the newspaper to breathe new life into the art and aesthetic experience of the city.
