Anyone who enters the foyer of the Sala Villa-Lobos, of the National Theater, passes through a space where light, matter and shadow occupy a central place. This is where the Metropolises presents an exhibition dedicated to Sergio Camargo, a fundamental artist of Brazilian sculpture, in an activity that transforms the cultural complex into part of the work itself.

Around 200 creations, including sculptures, reliefs and studies, are distributed throughout the space, organized to provoke changes in vision and perception. Instead of guiding the public through a historical journey, the exhibition offers a sensory experience, in which the visitor is invited to observe how surfaces, volumes and voids change depending on the incidence of light and the movement of the body in space.

The curatorship of Marcello Dantas explores the affinity between Camargo’s thought and the modernist architecture of the National Theater, bringing the works into dialogue directly with the building. The result is a journey in which art and architecture no longer occupy separate roles, creating an immersive experience that showcases the artist’s investigation into form, geometric rigor and visual poetry.
