Shopkeeper murdered in attempted robbery at clothing store in Santa Maria

32-year-old owner shot after criminal entered establishment and announced theft

Trader Gilmar Lima Escobar, 32, was killed this Saturday morning (6) during an attempted robbery in a clothing store in Bairro Tancredo Neves, west of Santa Maria. He was one of the owners of the establishment which had been in operation in the region for several years.

According to the Military Brigade, an armed man entered the scene, announced the theft and shot the victim. One of the shots hit Escobar in the face, who died inside the store before emergency crews arrived.

The surroundings of the establishment were isolated by the Military Brigade for the work of the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) and the Civil Police, responsible for collecting images, statements and other elements that could help in the identification of the suspect.

The investigation will be carried out by the Police Station for Homicide and Personal Protection (DPHPP), which is treating the case as a robbery, characterized by a theft followed by death.
