Former director of the PRF (Federal Highway Police) Silvinei Vasques carried a letter during his arrest, in which he stated that he could neither hear nor see and that he was going to El Salvador for treatment. According to the document, Vasques – who used a false passport when boarding – suffered from brain cancer which left him unable to speak, hear and see. He said he could only communicate in writing.
The information was revealed by the UOL portal and confirmed by Folha. Contacted, Vasques’ defense made no comment.
The document indicated that the medical treatment provided in Foz do Iguaçu had side effects of blindness and deafness of the former PRF director. The Paraguayan passport he carried was in the name of Julio Eduardo.
Silvinei was arrested this Friday (26) in Paraguay while trying to flee Brazil. He was at the Asunción airport trying to board a flight to El Salvador.
Federal police detected a failure in the monitoring of Silvinei’s electronic ankle bracelet on December 25 at 3 a.m. According to agent reports, at that point the equipment stopped transmitting the GPS signal.
The first team called to check the loss of the ankle bracelet signal was the Santa Catarina Criminal Police, around 8 p.m. this Thursday (25). Silvinei was no longer in his apartment in the municipality of São José.
Around 11 p.m., a team from the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police of Santa Catarina was on site to investigate possible non-compliance with restrictive measures.
Silvinei allegedly used a rental car to leave the building where he lived, in Santa Catarina, towards Paraguay. A few hours before breaking his ankle bracelet, the former director of the PRF put his things away. Wearing sweatpants, a t-shirt and a cap, he carried bags, dog toilet mats and a pit bull to the vehicle.
The PF informed the main stages of the escape attempt to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), who ordered preventive detention. Silvinei was sentenced this month to 24 years and six months in prison by the first committee of the STF for participating in one of the cores of the coup plot of the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
