MADRID, December 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Representatives of Argentina, Paraguay, Panama, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru signed a declaration this Saturday in which they call for the “restoration of democratic order” in Venezuela.
The signatories “ratify their firm decision to achieve, by peaceful means, the full restoration of democratic order and unrestricted respect for human rights in Venezuela,” according to the press release issued by the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, the six countries express their “deep concern” about the “serious migratory, humanitarian and social crisis in Venezuela” and recall that Caracas is a “State suspended from Mercosur in the application of the Ushuaia Protocol on democratic engagement”.
They recall in particular the complaints of United Nations human rights organizations concerning the “persistence of arbitrary detentions and forced disappearances”. This is why they urge the Venezuelan authorities to “comply with international standards in this matter, to immediately release and guarantee due legal process, as well as the physical integrity, of all citizens arbitrarily deprived of liberty.”
The document was signed by the President of Argentina, Javier Milei; that of Paraguay, Santiago Peña; that of Panama, José Raúl Mulino; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, Fernando Hugo Aramayo Carrasco, and the authorities of Ecuador and Peru met on December 20, 2025 in Foz de Iguazú, coinciding with the celebration of the Mercosur Summit.
