Find out how to reduce the risk of stroke and essential care for prevention
It all happened on October 11 while Rich was driving. At one point, he felt sudden pain in his jaw, followed by flashes of light in his vision. He then decides to go to the emergency room, where he suffers a stroke in the hallway. Once stabilized, he was transferred to a larger hospital for observation overnight.
“Early in the morning, a blood clot traveled to his brain, causing an ischemic stroke. He underwent an emergency thrombectomy to remove the clot. The second stroke caused significant damage, but the medical team’s quick intervention prevented an even worse outcome,” his wife told Newsweek.
Richie helps his father
Rich spent five days in the hospital, where doctors feared he would never again be able to walk on his own, eat without assistance or speak. After three weeks of an inpatient rehabilitation program, Rich returned home.
Child support
According to his wife Lizzy, it was very difficult for her son to see his father in such a vulnerable and unfamiliar state. Yet the boy, named Richie, never stopped encouraging his father. “He is empathetic, wise beyond his years and was deeply involved in Rich’s recovery. »
These days, Rich is no longer able to work in the lumber industry or run his automobile business. Instead, he is learning to strengthen the right side of his body and to speak again.
“For the five weeks since Rich came home, our son has worked alongside him, helping him with speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy exercises. He is Rich’s biggest fan and best friend. Their bond is strong and it shows in our videos,” Lizzy said.
In one of the posts shared on social media, you can see Richie facing his father, lying on the couch, reciting familiar phrases like “Hey, Chicken Little” and singing Let Me Tell You ‘Bout My Best Friend from the movie Starsky & Hutch. The video has already racked up over 63,000 views.
