José Sosa and his luck for a new conquest with the Pincha / Web
José Sosa built his legend at Estudiantes and, at the age of 40, became one of the biggest winners in the club’s history. El Principe won the club’s sixth title, joining the line of Carlos Bilardo, Marcos Conigliaro, Juan Echecopar, Oscar Malbernat, Carlos Pachamé and Juan Ramón Verón.
Yesterday he re-entered the plugin to provide another great version. He gave the team the game it was missing, with great passes and a lot of personality. In this way he crowned himself with another victory in the Champions Trophy and could not imagine what he had experienced in this time since his return in mid-2022.
“Another title. It’s incredible. As I said, in this last phase we had to take part in it. If the result is not there, it is not valued, but we put pressure on; they bore the wear and tear,” emphasized Sosa after the title.
While he waits to extend his contract with Pincha for another year where everything is given, the prince noted that everything that happened in the semester was satisfactory: “At this age, it is a gift to be able to give and contribute to the group. This group makes me proud, they have worked all year long. This club has shown once again that it is based on values.”
He also mentioned a sentence from Osvaldo Zubeldía: “The leaders got angry because I told them that I didn’t want to celebrate last Saturday’s title. I told them that if we won today we would make a difference and, as Zubeldía said, let the people celebrate, because we had to keep building to keep winning.”
And excitedly he concluded: “I’m from here. When I was little I was lucky enough to start my career at Estudiantes and I’m grateful for life. To the people of Carcarañá and to my wife who couldn’t travel: you are the impetus for me to keep playing.”
Without a doubt, Sosa has become one of the great symbols of Estudiantes and, apart from not having added many minutes recently, he is one of the great references and a role model to follow in the club. In the final against Racing and Platense he showed his full potential to help the team touch the sky with their hands again.
In his three stints at the club, he won the 2006 Apertura, the 2023 Argentine Cup, the 2024 League Cup, the 2024 Champions Trophy, the 2025 Clausura Tournament and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
To make matters worse, he will face major challenges if he manages to stay at Estudiantes, because in 2026 he could become the absolute winner in Estudiantes history.
Since the Albirrojo team won the Champions Trophy yesterday, it will take part in three more finals: the Argentine Super Cup against Independiente Rivadavia, the International Super Cup against Rosario Central and the Champions Cup Winners’ Cup, where it will play a triangular match against Rosario Central and Independiente Rivadavia.
