Striker Yverson Sotildo had a night of redemption at the Arena do Gremio on Tuesday (12/02). The Venezuelan, who had been suffering from criticism from Tricolor fans, finally became disillusioned with the Fluminense jersey. He scored the goal that opened the scoring against his former club Gremio, in the 37th round of the Brazilian League. In fact, this achievement has enormous weight for the athlete, because it ends a goal-hunting that lasted exactly 402 days.
The last time Sotildo scored was on October 26, 2024, when he was still defending Gremio in the win over Atletico Go. Since then, the player has gone through a difficult phase. He returned to Santos, where he played 17 matches without scoring, before being traded permanently to Fluminense. The relief goal came in the 18th minute of the first half, after Samuel Xavier passed Lucho Acosta, who sent the striker. Sotildo took advantage of goalkeeper Thiago Volpe’s mistake to score the ball. The move was checked by VAR, but the referee confirmed the goal.
During the break, Sotildo spoke about the complicated season:
“I don’t think I had good moments this year, I had injuries. It was a difficult moment as a player and as a person. I’m improving, and the teacher gives me confidence. I’m happy with the goal that gave us this advantage.”
Signing Sotildo was a big bet for Fluminense. Rio spent around R$30 million to acquire 50% of the player’s economic rights from Santos. The player’s contract with Tricolor runs until the end of 2028. The goal against Grêmio could therefore mark the beginning of a new phase for the striker in Laranjeiras.
