Power outage in SP
More than 1.5 million properties remain without electricity in the São Paulo metropolitan region this Thursday morning. In the capital alone, there are 1,023,823 addresses without electricity, according to Enel, the electricity concessionaire.
Firefighters responded to 1,327 calls for falling trees, 19 for collapses/collapses and 3 for flooding/flooding during the period.
Also on Wednesday, the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) sent a letter to Enel asking for clarification on the outage.
In the letter, Aneel reports that Civil Defense had already predicted the appearance of the extratropical cyclone for this date and the day before (12/9), with the potential for record gusts of wind and the possibility of trees falling in several points, “which would result in the interruption of the electricity supply to consumption units.”
The national agency also highlighted that, as expected, the Enel concession area was affected by the cyclone. At 3 p.m., more than 2 million homes were without electricity, representing nearly 32% of the allocated area.
Aneel recalled that this is not the first time that more than 2 million Enel customers find themselves without electricity during a weather event. The letter cites November 2023, where 2.1 million units were left without power, and October 2024, with 2.4 million power points interrupted.
Weather forecast
After being hit by a storm and an extratropical cyclone, the city of São Paulo is expected to experience another day of strong winds this Thursday (11/12). According to the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE), the intensity should however be lower.
The city council says the low pressure system that gave rise to the cyclone will dissipate in the coming days, which is expected to bring warmer weather and higher temperatures. Forecasts call for winds of up to 60 km/h — on Tuesday, records reached 98 km/h.
This Thursday, the sun appears between a few clouds throughout the day. Temperatures vary from a minimum of 19°C early in the morning to a maximum of 29°C in the afternoon. The air humidity level decreases slightly, with values between 32% and 90%.
In the rest of the state, Civil Defense maintains a moderate warning of gales in the Mogi das Cruzes region. The advice is to avoid being near large trees; do not leave loose objects in the courtyards; protect the elderly, children and pets.
